Meet and greet with your North East Explorers’ representative from the airport and settle down in your vehicle. Grab your quick breakfast before starting your drive through the plains of Assam dotted by random, small towns all along, to the Kaziranga National Park. If your arrival is early in the morning, your drive from Guwahati to Kaziranga National Park will be done just in time for you to catch your Kaziranga Jeep safari.

Day 2 – Kaziranga – Shillong

In the morning, start early and head straight to the Kaziranga elephant safari entry-point. The safari will last for around one hour during which you will experience Kaziranga wildlife from very close quarters. Sometimes, standing literally next to the famous one-horned rhinos of Kaziranga. Later in the morning, you will head to the jungle again for your jeep safari (if you haven’t done it yesterday). Then, you hop on to your vehicle and start for Meghalaya, the abode of clouds. On your way to Shillong, stop by at the gorgeous Umiam lake and soak-in its grandeur. Call it a day and relax at your beautiful Khasi homestay in Shillong.

Day 3 – Shillong – Cherrapunjee (Sohra)

Start at your first morning in Meghalaya at ease and then begin your journey to the rainiest place in the world, Cherrapunjee. This part of Meghalaya is one of the most beautiful parts of the state and has tons of gorgeous sights and sounds (of nature) for you to get lost in. By the time the sun sets, you would have visited some of the best places to see in Cherrapunjee. The probable list goes as below:
  • Elephant falls.
  • Shillong Peak.
  • Mawkdok Viewpoint.
  • Wha Kaba falls.
  • Arwah Caves.
  • Nonkalikhai Falls.
  • Mawsmai Caves.
For the night, check-in to a simple and very hospitable Khasi homestay.

**November – February is dry season so waterfalls are not generally at their best.

Day 4 – Cherrapunjee to Mawlynnong

Start your day by filling your lungs with the fresh Cherrapunjee air. If you manage to wake up early, do not miss taking a walk around the village in your homestays locality. After breakfast at your homestay, start your drive from Cherrapunjee to Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village. It is a beautiful drive through country-side Meghalaya so, sit back and relax and enjoy the drive. Feel free to stop as you please and soak-in the beautiful surroundings. Once in Mawlynnong, walk up the sky-bridge to have a look at the Bangladesh plains below. Check-in to a very simple but nice village home for the night and have you your dinner there. Also, on your way, stop by at the village of Riwai and visit the Living Root Bridge there.

Church Of North India, Mawlynnong
More than 100 years old Church in Mawlynnong Village

Day 5 – Mawlynnong – Dawki – Guwahati

Wake – up to yet another fresh morning in the laps of nature and head out for a stroll around the village. Explore its hundred-year-old church, the narrow lanes of the village and learn about how the village is kept spotlessly clean by watching the villagers, kids to oldies, playing their part in keeping the village clean. Post breakfast, head back to Dawki and Tamabil. It is famous for the transparent waters of Umgkot river. Enjoy a boat ride on the river and go up to ziro-point where India meets Bangladesh. After the boat ride, it’s a long drive back to the plains of Assam. You stay in Guwahati for the night, at an Assamese heritage home/an Assamese homestay.

Day 6 – Guwahati to Dirang

We start early from Guwahati as it is a long drive from the plains of Assam to the high Arunachal Pradesh. The driver from Guwahati to Dirang takes you through the golden paddy fields of Assam and numerous small town and villages of country-side Assam. Soon after entering Arunachal Pradesh and a short lunch-break, we stop by at the beautiful Gyuto monastery and spend some time exploring it. From there, we resume our drive to the gorgeous Dirang valley. For the night, we stay at a lovely tribal homestay overlooking the Dirang valley.

Day 7 – Dirang to Tawang

Today is going to be one of the most exciting days of the trip. You will be crossing the mighty Sela Pass on your way to Tawang. Not to mention the numerous war-memorials that you will be visiting on the way. Visit & pay your respect to the fallen heroes of our country before heading ahead and gawking at the beauty of the mesmerizing Sela lake. If you are visiting during the white season (read snow), you will find the lake beautifully frozen. Take a stroll by the lovely Sela lake if time permits and then start for our next stop, the Nuranang waterfall, the sheer grandness of which is sure to make your jaws drop. From there, we head straight to Tawang where your super welcoming hosts will be expecting you.

Day 8 – Tawang Tour

Today is a relaxed day so start it at your own pace, after a lazy breakfast. You will be first visiting the largest monastery in the world, the Tawang monastery and explore the place as you like. Once you are done here, your driver will take you to the Urgeling monastery, the birthplace of the 6th Dalai Lama and then the Ani Gompa (time permitting). You can have your lunch in the market or you can come back to your homestay for your lunch and a quick nap. In the evening, we visit the war memorial and experience the light and sound show there.

Day 9 – Penga Teng Tso, Madhuri Lake, and Bum La

Today again is one of the most exciting days of your trip. You will first drive to the India – China border at Bum La and then take a diversion to visit the Sangestar Tso, also known as the Madhuri lake of Koyla (the Bollywood movie) fame. The drive will be through what was once a battle-field. The scars of the war can be seen scattered all around in the form of abandoned Army bunkers. While Bum La & the Sangestar lake themselves are beautiful, they are not the only highlight of the day. The entire drive is gorgeous, to say the least, something that cannot be put to words.

Day 10 – Tawang to Bomdila/Dirang.

Today we begin our return journey, towards the end of our trip. We drive down to the Buddhist town of Bomdilla today, taking the same road we took on our way up to Tawang. Only this time we will stay at a unique and special place for the night instead of staying at the same homestay. By evening, we reach Bomdilla and stay at the Bomdila monastery rest-house for the night, of course after exploring it.

(Stay at the Bomdila Monastery rest-house depends upon availability and the monastery schedule. Else your stay will be at one of the few nice hotels in Bomdila or one of our homestays in Bomdila)

Day 11 – Bomdila/Dirang to Gauhati.

We wake-up early today so that we can explore the monastery once again, this time while the monks are busy praying. After a hearty breakfast at the monastery, we start our return journey back to Guwahati which marks the end of this wonderful trip.

I am a solo female traveler and a travel blogger, and travel independently most of the time. I was on a long trip to... north eastern states of India, and I took a trip with North East Explorers to Arunachal, having heard very little of this state. And it was the best thing to do! They organized a perfect trip, took me to the hidden gems of Arunachal, and I enjoyed my time with the locals, experienced local food, got a glimpse of their culture, and would not have wanted to travel in Arunachal in any other way! They are not your typical travel company. They offer customers what they want and more, and your money is worth and so is your time. You can get customized trips according to your budget, and plan trips as per your preferences. You will get a fulfilling customer service until your trip is over. North East Explorers are handsdown the best way to travel in north east India.read more

The trip was very well organised. Our trip operator Rajiv Verma was very quick in responding throughout our... communication. He was very helpful in sorting out any queries and issues throughout the trip. The trip was designed well to cover all the best spots throughout Meghalaya. We had an experienced driver who accompanied us through the trip provided by NE Explorers. Rajiv customised our trip the way we wanted to. He also suggested what is best for us. His mail included all details of inclusions and exclusion. So, there was no confusion at all with him. Highly recommend them. I have travelled a lot and booked trips with D Paul's and Make my trip. But, NE Explorers I really wanted to try because they were the local operators. And, they have really impressed me.Had a lovely time. It was so relaxed and easy thanks to them for taking care of everything so amazingly!!! 10/10 would definitely get in touch with them soon for our next travel plans !!!read more

We had a great and unforgettable experience in Arunachal pradesh (Dirang -Tawang- Bum la pass). Right from the minute... we landed in Guwahati, Rajiv took us under his wing. He made sure that we were taken care of every minute. The itinerary was followed to the tee. The driver Mr.Kamal handled the rough terrains expertly. The picturesque villages and streams were quite a sight. The homestays arranged were clean and the owners received us with great love. They looked after us as if we were their own family. The homestay in Tawang (Dondrub homestay) definitely deserves 5 stars. In all this was one of the most memorable vacations we took. Looking forward to another trip with North East explorersread more

We had a wonderful trip of North East organized by Rajiv from Northeast explorers. I searched for north east tour... operators and based on positives reviews shortlisted Northeast explorers. Rajiv, demonstrated his knowledge of the region and experience he has gained in this field. He clearly mentioned about stay only in homestays during the entire journey as he does not deal with hotels. After having communication with Rajiv we agreed on itinerary (Guwahati-Shillong-Cherrapunji-Mawlynong-Guwahati-Dirang-Tawang-Dirang-Guwahati) started our beautiful journey. Special mention to our expert driver cum guide Topeswar who was very knowledgeable and also took us to good restaurants along the trip. Also, Rajiv from NE Explorers was constantly in touch with us over phone/whatsapp while we traveled giving us tips. The homestays were mostly good except the one in Mawlynong which is small village. I have one feedback here if they can provide couple of homestays options in advance at each place to choose from then that would be great. Rest all was very good and especially host at Tawang homestay was amazing and helped us in Bumla trip. Overall a very mesmerizing experience. I would definitely recommend North East Explorers.read more

We were 6 people and went on an amazing trip this year to the NE thanks to Rajiv. From the very first interactions... that we have had with him, it has been plesant experience. He takes personal care with the planning of the trip, hand picks the places that we stay in and overall makes the experience a memorable one. The places you stay are all homestays, which is the speciality that Rajiv offers. We were initially skeptical about the same, but Rajiv assured that this was the best part of the travel where you get the feel of a home like stay. He was indeed correct. you can get to experience the genuine love of NE people through these home stay. They were well prepared for our arrival and took great care of us. Travelling with a 5 year old, this was very important. Most importantly the our driver Nagesh who accompanied us through the trip was very knowledgeable. He understands your tastes and preferences very quickly and chooses restaruants very wiesly. The plan that he does is also pretty amazing. A couple of times where we started late, we still did not find the pinch of time and were able to see all the places we had to cover, thanks to Nagesh. This he does without overspeeding. A very careful driver and a wonderful person to interact with. The most unusual part of the trip is the followup you get from Rajiv. He calls you couple of times every day, takes personal care in ensuring that everything is fine. We also met him on the way, where he says that he makes is a point to meet his guests atleast once during their journey. Very different from a lot of tourist operators who get you started with a trip and don't care from there. During our trip we had an unfortunate emergency. The urgency with which both Nagesh and Rajiv helped us out through the same was quite amazing. They took a lot of care in ensuring that we got all the help possible during the time of crisis which meant a lot to us. Overall we had a very memorable experience of the NE, thanks to Rajiv. I would definitely explore more of NE and would definitely do that wth the help of Rajiv and his team.read more

We had a wonderful trip of Meghalaya organized by Northeast explorers. Their website was informative, Rajeev was... knowledgeable, itinerary was well planned, we got a comfortable car with a safe driver. Then why 3 stars? 1 )The driver Vicky, wanted to start the day late and worse would delay it further. This resulted in we not completing the itinerary 2) repeated complaints to Rajeev didn't help 3) At the Dorki river, the driver colluded with locals and forced us to take a costlier package. 4) The driver would skip items from the itinerary, when it suited him and this was done silently at times. 5) even after factoring in perks(planning, website etc), the trip cost was way more costly compared to what others paid for same homestays and transport. This was the observation of other patrons of Northeast explorers. We loved the Northeast, Northeast explorers not so much.read more
